DREAM: Where is God taking us?
"A city of refuge within the city of Brisbane"
Our dream is to be a city of refuge within the city of Brisbane, where many people have found refuge, security, and hope in Christ. We see a mature, generous, and kingdom-minded community with a prayer to plant four new gospel-centred Anglican churches in Brisbane by 2032.
The ‘cities of refuge’ were part of the LORD’s allotment of land after Israel entered the promised land in the time of Joshua. These cities were a place where those who had unintentionally committed manslaughter could flee to find refuge. These cities were a place of sanctuary and safety to avoid retribution. These cities of refuge were a shadow of the refuge to come in Jesus Christ.
“…we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf….”
What Jesus offers is better than those allotted lands in Ancient Israel. He not only provides protection for those who’ve committed unintentional offences but offers all people a way to escape the consequences of their sin and rebellion.
“Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
We see a church comprising hunreds of sinners, the suffering, the broken, and the weary from across Brisbane who have accepted Jesus’ invitation to find rest in Him. He is our refuge. He is our security. He is our hope.
The gospel changes everything. When people find their refuge, security, and hope in Christ, their lives are radically changed.
- We see a mature community growing in their relationship with Christ and with others. (See Ephesians 4:11-16; Colossians 2:6-7; 2 Peter 3:18)
- We see a generous community giving their time, talent, and treasure to fuel Christ’s mission. (See Philippians 4:14-20)
- We see a kingdom-minded community who are part of building God’s kingdom beyond our walls throughout Brisbane and to the ends of the earth. (See Matthew 28:16-20; Acts 1:8)
We see a church that is committed to praying that the LORD will continue to build the church. (See Psalm 127:1; Matthew 16:18)
We see a church that intentionally multiplies leaders to serve in our church and to be sent out to serve in new churches and kingdom initiatives.
- We see new churches connected to the past through a rich reformed Anglican heritage.
- We see new churches committed to the future by contextually engaging the new world city of Brisbane with the gospel.
